Sarah Hansmann Rouxel

I have lived in Guernsey since 2007 after moving here with my husband, Stephen, to raise our two children. Stephen, a prominent local businessperson in the finance sector, and his family have been in Guernsey for a several generations and it was those roots that drew us to live here.

My professional background is as a performer, theatrical artistic director and creative training facilitator. After studying Speech and Drama at the University of Cape Town, I worked in theatre, television and the professional comedy circuit in South Africa, Edinburgh and Guernsey. Designing and delivering creative workshops for businesses, communities and educational projects has given me a strong record of accomplishment in team building, corporate training, education and the arts.

Since I was elected in 2016, I have expanded my knowledge in social, environmental and educational policy development as well as working very closely with the Guernsey Disability Alliance as the States’ Champion for Disabled People. I am a member of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure.

The 2016 States was a challenging environment. I am proud of the policy areas I helped shape, influence and drive forward including the implementation of the waste strategy, the successful defence of several green lungs in the north of the island, the energy policy and the climate change action plan and, of course, the part I played in delivering the discrimination legislation.

I am standing with the Guernsey Partnership to put my hard-earned policy and political knowledge to work with other deputies who are determined to pull in the same direction.

If elected, my main priorities will be to support the Guernsey Partnership in bringing forward decisive policy and investment strategies for the island’s economic recovery and to continue to support the smooth implementation of the discrimination legislation while working with the businesses community. Equally as important is the transformation of secondary education that needs decisive action and implemented in cooperation with education professionals and the public.  Finally, I want to ensure the completion of the Arts Strategy that will unlock the potential of the creative industries.
