Rhian Tooley

St. Peter Port

I was first elected as a People’s Deputy for St Peter Port South in 2016.

I have served as Vice-President of the Committee for Health & Social Care for the whole of this term and I am proud to have been part of the team which has built firm foundations for a new model of health and care - Guernsey’s Partnership of Purpose – with community wellbeing at its heart.

Since 2018 I have also served as a member of the Committee for Education Sport & Culture.

I have represented Guernsey at The British-Irish Councils on Early Years Education and on Indigenous and Minority Languages, both subjects I passionately believe in, and I’m Guernsey’s representative for the Commonwealth Women’s Parliamentarian Association.

I gained my degree at Birmingham University and I am a qualified teacher. During my career prior to entering the States of Deliberation, I have taught in both private and state schools and at both primary and secondary level. I’ve worked in the third sector as a Youth and Children’s Worker and Advisor and I’ve also been a Human Resources Manager for multinational retail companies.

I enjoy the arts, history, travelling, photography and sailing and I first met my husband, Jonathan, in 2000 when we were crew for a mutual friend. We’ve now been married for almost 16 years and much of our spare time is spent walking our dog, enjoying the beautiful environment of Guernsey and cheering on the various sporting and other efforts of our five children who are pupils at Vauvert Primary School and at Guernsey Grammar School/ Les Varendes.

The community needs Guernsey to rise from this period of global pandemic and recover as an even better version of itself; a kinder, wiser society; careful to protect and sustain what is good but unafraid to act boldly and decisively to change where we could be better. Doing this will require a government which considers social, economic, community and environmental issues.

I believe I have the experience, ability and willingness to find the compromises required from the Deputies Guernsey elects to lead us through this period. In return for one of your votes, I promise that I would work constructively with other States Members and the wider community to build a better future for us all.
